This morning two national newspapers reported that Wigan were interested in Preston’s Matt Hill as a potential replacement for Leighton Baines, who recently moved to Everton in a £4 million deal.

However Paul Simpson has moved quickly and announced that the full back is going nowhere especially after signing a new deal this summer. Last seasons player of the year is a fans favourite and a consistent performer. He wouldn’t be able to recreate the stunning goals Baines has scored for Wigan, having not scored since his move from bristol city in 2004.
