Preston are expected to breeze past newly promoted Morecambe in this Carling cup affair. In their first season in the football league, under the guidance of Sammy McIlroy, who infamously slipped on the new Wembley pitch in celebration last season, come to the most historic ground in England in only their second game. Both teams kicked of with unconvincing 0-0 results on the opening day of the season, but Morecambe`s fixture was delayed after an unexpected amount of fans turned up for their home game. It remains to be seen how many fans will make the short trip down to Preston.

Editors view:

Preston should easily win this fixture but have never done well in the Carling cup. Losing to Port Vale last season and Barnsley year before in the early rounds spring to mind. However the squad is much stronger and Simpson is expected to rest players but Preston should easily be strong enough to progress despite not playing a full strength team.

Preston North End Team News:

It is unknown if Simpson will use a strong team or put out the reserves but the only absentees are Paul McKenna, Patrick Agyemang and Matthew Hill. Hawley is expected to start and will have a point to prove after Mellor and Ormerod fired blanks on Saturday.

Player to watch: Simon Whaley

May be the time to show the manager and the fans what he can do after poor performances from last season. The task shouldn`t be too difficult and hopefully he can gain some confidence for the rest of the season.

Morecambe Team News:

Matthew Blinkhorn is a doubt after recovering from an injury. The former Blackpool man would relish a chance to play at Deepdale.

Player to watch: Michael Twiis

The former Man Utd man may have a point to prove in midfield
