Graham Westley said that he was ’embarrassed and ashamed’ following Preston’s 3-1 defeat against Brentford on Tuesday night.

The Preston manager wasn’t happy with the display that he witnessed at Deepdale and isn’t going to settle for ‘second class’ anymore: ‘it is not often that I can say that I have walked into a press conference and I have been embarrassed and ashamed of what we have dished up.

‘I feel that way and what we gave as a performance was second class by a long way.

‘Defensive errors have cost us and suddenly we were 2-0 down before we knew it and those defensive errors exposed the fragility and the confidence of the team.

‘The thing that embarrasses me and leaves me ashamed is the reaction that we showed because we looked dead a long way before the final whistle. I am not accustomed to seeing that approach and attitude in a team of mine. I expect us to fight for every ball and every blade of grass.’

Ongoing ‘issues behind the scenes’ are not helping matters: ‘if I am honest I am not shocked with the performance. Anybody who has spoken to me behind the scenes will know there are issues. There is an aversion to hard work and the new way of doing things.’

Quite clearly, something that Westley speaks about in another article published, there is a big divide among the squad.
