Just as defender Liam Chilvers put pen to paper earlier in the week, his central defensive partner Youl Mawene follows suit with a deal similar to Chilvers, signing until 2010 with an option for an extra 12 months. The Frenchman has been a solid player since signing from Derby three years ago.

Mawene is seen as a cult hero by most fans and this comes as good news with both strong defenders committing their futures. Mawene was out all last season after breaking his leg in the win against Manchester United. Chilvers and Mawene are expected to form a strong partnership at the back and should both start against Norwich on Saturday.

Preston manager Paul Simpson will be hoping the two centre backs can create a strong platform to build on after the poor pre-season form. The manager has stated that pre-season form doesn`t matter and he is unfazed that Preston haven`t won in six games. “You can have a strong pre-season but start poorly or lose all your pre-season games and start strongly” The manager clearly has confidence in his team. There has been no news on any possible transfers so far since Simpson stated his desire to recruit.
