Preston were on course for another win at the weekend, but ‘naivety’ at the death meant they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Bury.

Graham Westley felt that his side grew into the game and were worthy of the lead when it eventually came, he was just disappointed more goals weren’t added to Chunks Aneke’s strike midway through the second half.

The Lilywhites manager was also unhappy at the defending in injury-time that allowed Bury back into the game: ‘in the first half we didn’t show enough responsibility or purpose in possession of the ball.

‘We seemed happy enough to go and win the ball but didn’t utilise it well when it was at our feet. We showed more urgency in the second half and played some good football in patches.

‘We earned the right to the luck we had for our goal in that it was deflected, and we could have been two or three goals ahead soon after.

‘We showed a lot of naivety in injury time, though, and not much maturity in the way we closed the game out. I would have liked to see us hold the fort a bit better.’
