Preston have signed up-and-coming talent Kelvin Wilson on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal.

The 20-year-old central defender, signed from Notts County, is seen as one of the most exciting prospects in the lower leagues.

Wilson is said to have been tracked by top clubs in the past and was recently linked with a £1m move to the Premier League, with Everton reportedly interested. The youngster has vowed to take his chance now that it has been offered to him.

‘It’s a big club going forward and that’s what I have always wanted, to move to a big club and I’ve got my chance now,’ he told the official club website.

The centre-half has won plenty of plaudits for his powerful style of play, including Players’ Player and Most Improved Player of 2004/5.

Billy Davies is excited about the signing. Speaking on the club website he said: ‘He is a tremendous signing for Preston North End.

‘It’s a tremendous opportunity for him, and we will help him get the best out of his potential.’

Wilson will be immediately available to play at Brighton on Saturday (match preview to follow).
