David Nugent has been named the Football League’s Young Player of the Year at a glitzy awards ceremony in London.

The inaugral Football League Awards, incorporating FourFourTwo’s Top 50 Football League Players, also dished out a gong for North End’s backroom staff for ‘Best Club Marketing Campaign’, following the huge success of their ‘Loud and Proud’ scheme.

The award will come as a great boost for 20-year-old Nugent, who has been experiencing a lean patch in front of goal lately.

He said: “Last year we got to the play-off final then had the disappointment against West Ham, but this time we can hopefully go one step further and reach the Premiership.”

North End missed out on winning ‘Programme of the Year’, losing to Crystal Palace in a very competitive section.
