Preston North End boss Darren Ferguson could be forced into making a move into the loan market to add to the Club’s firepower.

The Lilywhites are currently down to just two fit strikers in Iain Hume and Jon Parkin and that number will be reduced to one when Hume is ineligable to face his parent club Barnsley next Tuesday night.

North End’s other striking options are hampered by injury, Chris Brown faces five weeks out on the sidelines following knee surgery, whilst on loan Man Utd prospect Josh King faces three further weeks out with an ankle problem. King’s initial loan period ends on November 14th.

Ferguson could opt to use either Keith Treacy or Paul Parry to support the strikers but admitted this week that he might look for a more experienced striker in the loan market.

One man who has been linked with North End is West Brom’s Simon Cox. A £1.5m signing from Swindon in the summer of 2009, the former Reading trainee is down the pecking order at The Hawthorns, though he did make a rare start at Blackpool on Monday night.

Cox scored 35 goals in 62 league starts for Swindon and has an equally impressive strikerate for the Baggies, grabbing nine from eighteen starts in his 16 months under Roberto Di Matteo.
