Preston North End fans had mixed reactions tonight, following the news that Chris Lucketti has left the club.

Fans on a Preston North End message board were largely supportive of the decision to let Lucketti go, but others felt his attitude had let the club down.

Luke Southworth, 17, said: ‘He was a good servant to PNE. His leaving may be on a sour note, but hopefully that won’t be what he’s remembered for.

‘To sell him for £300,000 is an excellent deal. If we can get someone like Elliott Ward in on loan to cover it will be very handy, though O’Neil, Hill, Mears and even Alexander can cover.’

Simon Dickinson, 21, said: ‘He was our third choice centre back. Has been steady at the back for recent years, but Mawene and Davis are far better.

‘Good move for Chris himself, but IF Sheff Utd gain promotion, will certainly be found wanting in the Premiership. And if Preston have plans to get promoted and stay there, we will need better, faster more skillful defenders than Chris Lucketti!’

Keith Harrison, a fan based in Staffordshire, said: “People having a go at Lucketti are bang out of order. It’s a good deal for all concerned.

“He’s been superb for North End but he’s no longer first choice and we’ll undoubtedly get someone younger in now to back up Claude and Youl”, he added.

Forum user Deepdazzle said: ‘I for one am delighted by this deal. 300k for a 34 year-old who is past his best, too slow and desperate to leave is fantastic business.

‘Don’t get me wrong, Chris has been a superb servant to the club and I thank him for that, but he’s no longer needed at Deepdale.’

But, acknowledging the centre-half’s conduct was less than impressive, he added: ‘The one thing that annoys me is Lucketti’s desperation to leave.

‘I think we can all put this down to the fact Claude [Davis] has been a superstar this season, and there is just no place for Chris in the team.’
