Preston centre half Liam Chilvers has signed a new three year contract. The news comes after The Sun reported the Preston defender would sign a four year deal this morning. The North End officials have rewarded the player with contract after he starred in all but one game last season and became a rock at the back. Preston have also managed to get an option of a further year of the player`s services.

The former Arsenal youngster was signed from Colchester on a free last summer and struck up a solid partnership with new arrival Sean St.Ledger. Chilvers` contract was due to expire next summer so Preston were keen to snap up the defender and secure his future. Paul Simpson said ” His contract is a reward for what he did last season” “It was a bonus how Liam performed last season?.. Excellent.”

Chilvers became an instant regular for Preston last season and it is expected he will line up with Youl Mawene at the back this season. Sean St.Ledger is likely to be on the bench.
