Stoke were fortunate to win at Cardiff, saving a late penalty in the process. Scunthorpe shocked many by grabbing a point at the Valley despite losing their best player and given the tag of favourites to go down. Plymouth won a 5 goal thriller away at Hull after conceding first. Ipswich started brightly and crushed Sheffield Wednesday 4-1. Blackpool caused a massive shock, grabbing a controversial victory at Leicester. Preston and Norwich played out the only 0-0 draw in the division in a dull encounter. Watford got a dramatic winner late on at Molineux scoring 2 in the last 10 minutes.

Tonight there are many league cup clashes with most Championship outfits expected to progress. Last night Southampton crashed out to Peterborough, losing 2-1 away at London road.
